EPS STUDENTS MEET THE STR ARCHITECTS

1/24/2017

Today the students had the opportunity to meet two of our architects from STR Partners.  Alan and Colby had the chance to meet and interact with many of our students and ask about our current school.  They collect their ideas on education, what did they like about our current building, and most of all, what would they like to see in the future.

This process lead to some very fun and interesting conversations on everything from the locker rooms to the cafeteria tables.  Many of the students commented on how much they would like to have outdoor spaces, access to smaller study rooms, updated classrooms and locker rooms and definitely a bigger band room.  New playgrounds and a more colorful school were also on the top of the list as was more vegetation in and around the school.  Some also thought the best way to get from one floor to another was by including escalators.  So much fun.

STR Partners have always worked with the students during the design process of any of the school that they have built.  This helps in the process because even though they design schools all the time, each one of the structures is as unique as the communities in which they are built.  STR will continue meeting with the students and staff for a few more days this week.

SOIL BORING SITES CHOOSEN

1/23/2017

Recently you might have seen some new marking on the grounds of the district along with stakes in the ground.  These are areas in which we will be doing some future soil boring.  Soil borings are tests which are conducted for different reasons.  Some of these reasons  including to determine what is the density of the soil, how much dirt is beneath the grass and what types of rock lays beneath that.  These soil boring tests are performed by excavating soil from an area and analyzing it.  Do not worry there will not any large holes to worry about, these are about 2 inches in diameter and run about 25 feet into the ground.  The tests will help the architects determine how deep they can dig and and what types of materials they will need to support the new structure.

EPS STARTS SURVEYING PROPERTY

1/12/2017

Over the past weeks you might have noticed many workmen in the area with some odd equipment.  This equipment is being used to survey the various properties owned by the school  district.  Surveying is the process in which a team of engineers can locate all of the property boundaries and place marking on the ground where various utilities are. The process of surveying is used to provide architects with exact measurements, which will guide them in the overall designs of the the new building and facilities.
